From The Principal

Dear Flickinger Families,
This past month of school has flown by! I really can’t believe we are at the end of another school year. I am incredibly proud of all the progress each student has made.
As we complete the final days of school, many families ask us for advice on how to help their child to continue to learn and practice their skills over the summer.
Students are encouraged to participate in Flickinger’s Summer Challenge. This information is included in the newsletter and will also be sent home with each
student. Motivating your child to continue learning over the summer may be tough.
Here are a few suggestions:
• Show enthusiasm – Get excited about what you want your child to do. Show them that summer is the perfect time to make learning fun. For example, have your child research and read about a place you plan on visiting.
• Explore topics your child is interested in - The public library is a great place to try to find books. They also have many activities planned that your child can participate in to further their learning.
• Ask questions about what your child is learning or practicing and provide feedback - Get involved with their summer studies, even if it is just a few minutes per day. Showing interest in what your child is doing will make
them truly believe that it is important.
• Provide structure – Pick a specific time that your child is going to read or practice. Try to stick with the schedule so it becomes a part of your child’s routine.
Finally, I want to thank you for partnering with me to do our very best for the students of Flickinger Elementary this school year. Our students could not be more friendly, fun and enthusiastic for learning. I feel very fortunate to be a part of a phenomenal team comprised of a staff committed to teaching children and their learning along with a supportive community of parents that truly understand that we all work together to do the absolute best we can for our children.
Thank you for being a part of our Flickinger TEAM and supporting excellence in education for all Flickinger students!
